Management and restoration of wet nature areas
Slovakia has a large wealth of wet nature areas, from sources, brooks as well as (base) low and high peat. The book Calcareous mires of Slovakia shows a number of these areas, including lime marshes. Each chapter deals in detail with a specific area, including issues such as geomorphology, ecohydrology, vegetation and land use.
Many of these areas are under pressure, for example through excavation of the peat and drainage by agriculture. Slovak and Dutch scientists explain in this collection of articles where the vulnerabilities of these areas lie, but above all also what possibilities for management and nature restoration there are.
