The Catalog of the Dutch Beetles is the first overview of the Dutch beetle fauna since more than 40 years. Beetles or beetles (Coleoptera) are a very species-rich group of insects, of which 4,163 species have been observed in the Netherlands. All of these species are listed in which of the twelve provinces they occur. Two research periods were distinguished here: before 1967 and 1967-2007, so that any deterioration can also be visualized. For example, 475 species have not been observed since 1966.
The data presented is largely based on the critical revision of collection material by a dozen supply experts. This basic information can be found on the attached CD-Rom.
Introductory chapters in the Catalog of the Dutch Beetles briefly addresses the method followed at the establishment of the catalog as well as the history of the beetle study in the Netherlands. In addition, there is an extensive biographical overview of deceased Dutch Coleopterologists. A comprehensive register, in which all changed names from the previous name list are included, complements this guide.
