Coots are everyday animals that seem to lead an everyday life, but appearances are deceptive. Some coots are loyal to their nesting place and their partner all their lives, while others are unconstrained adventurers who fly over the Mediterranean to hibernate on the Nile or cross the Sahara to settle in Liberia. Coots have a huge distribution area. They occur on the Herengracht in Amsterdam, but also in the mountains of New Guinea. They save themselves everywhere, they bite brightly and they themselves do what they do with their lives.
