Bhutan's location in the Eastern Himalays with rich biodiversity and undisturbed natural habitats makes it a paradise for nature lovers around the world. The vast expanse of forests, scrubs and wetlands including old growth subtropical and temperate forests are home to some of the rarest birds like the White-bellied Heron, Rufous-necked Hornbill, and the wintering grounds for the Black-necked Crane. Countrys progressive policies and avid conservation plans and implementation create ideal conditions of existence for the recorded 753 species of birds and 759 species of butterflies.

Moreover, this rich avifauna and swarm of butterflies is on the progressive path of conservation, through the collective effort of many. Several international and local ornithologists, lepidopterist, nature expeditions, birding tours, national surveys and had drawn an increasingly positive attention to these fields. A Pictorial Field Guide to Birds and Butterflies of Bhutan also gears towards the aim of instilling conservation in the young minds and tourist guides through photographs on the various birds and butterflies found in the country. The book contains illustrations of 504 birds and 400 butterflies.

With this book, the writers hope to make information on birds and butterflies available to a wider public so that they become interested in studying them. This guide will be a valuable source for students, guides, researchers, and others who are interested in these field of study.
