The geographical scope of the Western Palaearctic herein encompasses the vast territory stretching from the Azores and Canary Islands through Europe, North Africa, the Middle East, and the Caucasus, extending to the eastern slopes of the Ural Mountains, western Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan, as well as the eastern borders of Turkmenistan and Iran. The second volume covers over 900 species.

This enables the reader to evaluate immediately both the number of species and their diversity. Butterflies of the Western Palaearctic volume II encompasses the remaining Lycaenidae (Agrodiaetus), Riodinidae, Nymphalidae: Libytheinae, Danainae, Charaxinae, Apaturinae, Limenitidinae, Nymphalinae, Heliconiinae, Satyrinae.
