The Hanna Instruments HI98196 is a professional portable water quality meter for measuring pH, ORP, dissolved oxygen (DO) and temperature. Its main strength is reliable dissolved oxygen measurement, making the HI98196 particularly suitable for surface water monitoring and applications involving freshwater, brackish water and seawater. The HI7698196 digital probe has two sensor ports for a pH or pH/ORP electrode and a dissolved oxygen sensor. An integrated temperature sensor and built-in barometer provide automatic temperature and atmospheric pressure compensation for DO measurements. The meter features an IP67-rated housing, while the probe is IP68 rated and can be used at depths of up to 20 meters. The backlit graphic LCD can display up to six selected parameters at the same time.
For dissolved oxygen (DO), the HI98196 provides a measuring range of 0.00 to 50.00 mg/L (ppm) or 0.0 to 500.0% saturation. Salinity compensation accounts for the effect of salt on dissolved oxygen readings, making the meter suitable for measurements in brackish and seawater as well as freshwater. The built-in barometer automatically measures atmospheric pressure, eliminating the need for manual pressure corrections. The DO sensor is automatically polarized when the meter is switched on and uses easy-to-replace, pre-tensioned HDPE membrane caps. pH can be calibrated automatically at up to three points using five standard buffers or one custom buffer, while ORP supports single-point calibration. The color-coded electrodes are automatically recognized and can be replaced individually. For measurement documentation, the dissolved oxygen meter includes a data logger for manual or continuous recording, adjustable logging intervals from 1 second to 3 hours and memory for up to 45,000 data sets. Data can be transferred to a PC through the optically isolated micro-USB connection using the HI9298194 software. GLP functions retain calibration information, while the dedicated Help key provides on-screen guidance for the selected function.
