The HOBO Temp/RH & Soil Moisture Logger MX2307A combines multiple important soil and environmental measurements in a single wireless data logger. The system measures volumetric water content (VWC), soil electrical conductivity (EC), soil temperature, air temperature, and relative humidity (RH). Dew point temperature and Vapor Pressure Deficit (VPD) can also be calculated.
By recording soil and environmental conditions simultaneously, the MX2307A provides a comprehensive view of the conditions in which plants and crops grow. This makes the logger suitable for applications including irrigation management, agriculture, greenhouse production, horticulture, soil research, crop research, and environmental studies.
Soil Moisture, EC, and Climate in One System
Optimal plant development depends on more than the amount of water available in the soil. Temperature, humidity, and soil electrical conductivity also play an important role when evaluating growing conditions.
The MX2307A combines these parameters in a single measurement system and uses LI-COR soil moisture sensing technology. The logger records the following parameters:
- volumetric water content (VWC);
- soil electrical conductivity (EC);
- soil temperature;
- air temperature;
- relative humidity (RH);
- calculated dew point temperature;
- calculated Vapor Pressure Deficit (VPD).
Recording these parameters over extended periods makes it possible to track changes in soil conditions and the surrounding microclimate. This provides valuable information for analyzing the relationship between water availability, soil conditions, climate, and plant growth.
Ready for Soil Measurements
The HOBO MX2307A is supplied with a pre-connected soil sensor featuring a 2-meter cable. The sensor uses stainless-steel sensing pins to provide stable placement and reliable contact with the soil.
The sensor is suitable for both mineral soils and soilless growing media and substrates. Measured soil moisture can also be displayed as a percentage of Field Capacity.
The logger features a rugged IP67-rated enclosure, making the MX2307A suitable for long-term monitoring in demanding outdoor environments.
Wireless Configuration and Data Retrieval
The MX2307A can be configured and read wirelessly via Bluetooth Low Energy. Using the free HOBOconnect app, the logger can be connected through a smartphone, tablet, or Windows computer.
With the HOBOconnect app, users can: set measurement intervals, start and stop logging, view current measurements, download stored measurement data, export data for further analysis.
Under optimal conditions, the wireless range is approximately 30 meters with a clear line of sight.
For applications where measurement data needs to be accessed remotely, such as in a greenhouse, the MX2307A can be combined with an MX Gateway and an appropriate data plan. This makes it possible to access data remotely through LI-COR Cloud.
Applications
The combination of soil moisture, soil EC, temperature, and humidity makes the HOBO MX2307A suitable for a wide range of applications, including: greenhouse and horticultural applications, agricultural research, soil and crop research, irrigation management and irrigation research, soil moisture monitoring, soil EC and nutrient research, irrigation strategy optimization, microclimate monitoring, ecological and environmental research, research into the relationship between water, climate, and plant growth.
The MX2307A is part of the HOBO MX2300 Series and combines soil moisture measurements with additional environmental measurements. This provides a more comprehensive view of the interaction between water, soil, and climate.
