The 1CHBW is a single-layer built-in bat box made of sustainable wood-concrete. These boxes have a modular design. The box is specifically designed for building-dwelling bat species. It is most suitable for the common pipistrelle and the Nathusius's pipistrelle. It can also be used by serotine bats, common long-eared bats, and pond bats.
The box is designed to be installed within the brickwork. Combined with an entrance brick, the box can be fully integrated behind the brickwork. Alternatively, the box can be partially integrated into the brickwork with brick slips at the front.
Thanks to the modular system, multiple boxes can be connected together. This is done via easily broken-out recesses, allowing for the creation of larger roosts.
This version is the single-tier variant. Two-tier and three-tier variants of the same model are also available. This box may serve as a permanent summer/mating roost for the Nathusius's pipistrelle. When this box is connected vertically, it also complies with the BIJ12 measures for the Common Pipistrelle.* For direct compliance with the measures for the Common Pipistrelle, tall built-in boxes are also available.

* The entrance hole measures 3 centimeters. As a result, the box may be less suitable as a summer or mating roost for common pipistrelles, but it is usable for other (larger) bat species. Nevertheless, the box meets the minimum requirements as described in the BIJ12 knowledge document on the Nathusius's Pipistrelle.
