English summary
Mali and Burkina Faso cover a considerable part of West Africa and include three major African vegetation zones: the Saharan, Sahelian and Soudanian region.
The new Flora covers the entire diversity of ferns, fern allies and flowering plants of both countries, altogether 2631 species (2115 species in Burkina Faso, 1952 in Mali, 1453 of them in both countries).
For each species, a brief description of morphology, information on ecology and a distribution map are presented, accompanied by line drawings of important characteristics of each species and color photographs for over 760 species.
Further included are identification keys to families, genera and species, an index of vernacular (common) names as well as an introductory section on vegetation and human impact on the vegetation of Burkina Faso and Mali.
