The Kowa TSN-99S Prominar is a high-end spotting scope for demanding birdwatching, wildlife observation and long-distance viewing. As one of Kowa's flagship models, it combines a large 99mm fluorite crystal objective lens with Kowa XD optics and advanced optical coatings. This combination delivers a bright, high-contrast and detailed image, even in less favourable lighting conditions. The Kowa TSN-99S Prominar is available in two configurations: as a spotting scope body only or as a complete set with the Kowa TE-11WZ II 30-70x zoom eyepiece. This allows you to use an existing eyepiece or start with a complete observation setup.
The 99mm fluorite crystal objective lens is at the heart of the Kowa TSN-99S Prominar. The fluorite crystal used in the objective is an artificially grown optical material with extremely low dispersion. This helps to significantly reduce chromatic aberration, while maintaining natural colours and fine details even at high magnifications. Combined with Kowa XD optics and improved optical coatings, the objective provides a bright and high-contrast image with excellent colour reproduction. This makes the TSN-99S well suited to birdwatching, wildlife observation and viewing distant subjects where fine detail is important.
The Kowa TSN-99S features a dual focus mechanism for both fast and precise focusing. The large focus control allows you to quickly bring a subject into focus, while the fine focus provides precise control for the final adjustment. This is particularly useful at high magnifications, during longer observation sessions and when digiscoping, where accurate focusing is important.
The body of the Kowa TSN-99S is made from 100% magnesium alloy. This provides a strong and durable construction while keeping the spotting scope relatively lightweight for a model with a 99mm objective lens. The TSN-99S is therefore well suited to field use and can be carried comfortably during longer observation sessions. The housing is fully waterproof and nitrogen-sealed. Combined with Kowa KR coating on the optics, the spotting scope is designed for reliable use in a range of outdoor weather conditions.
The TSN-99S also features an eyepiece locking mechanism that keeps the mounted eyepiece securely in place. The spotting scope is fully compatible with the KOWA SYSTEM, allowing different Kowa eyepieces and accessories to be used. With suitable digiscoping adapters, the TSN-99S can be combined with a smartphone, mirrorless camera or DSLR camera. This makes the spotting scope suitable not only for direct observation, but also for capturing birds, wildlife and other distant subjects in detail.
For longer observation sessions, using a sturdy tripod is recommended. The Kowa TSN-99S features both 1/4" and 3/8" tripod mounting threads, allowing it to be used with a variety of tripod systems. A tripod with a fluid-damped head can provide additional comfort when tracking moving subjects and helps maintain a stable view, even at higher magnifications.
TE-11WZ II Zoom Eyepiece
The Kowa TSN-99S Prominar version with TE-11WZ II is supplied with the Kowa TE-11WZ II 30-70x zoom eyepiece. This wide-angle zoom eyepiece offers a variable magnification range from 30x to 70x, allowing you to switch easily between a wider field of view and higher magnification for viewing distant details. The TE-11WZ II features two XD lenses for a sharp and clear image. The eyepiece is waterproof and equipped with a three-position twist-up eyecup. This allows the eye relief to be adjusted for comfortable viewing with or without glasses. The body-only version is suitable if you already own a compatible Kowa eyepiece or want to choose an eyepiece yourself. The version with the TE-11WZ II provides a complete solution if you want to start observing immediately and use a flexible magnification range from 30x to 70x.
