This MBH Bat Box double-layered has been specially developed in accordance with BIJ12 guidelines for the Common Pipistrelle (Pipistrellus pipistrellus) and Nathusian Pipistrelle (Pipistrellus nathusii). This bat box is suitable for the mitigation of small shelters, summer residences and mating roosts of these building-dwelling bats. The bat box has two compartments that create different microclimates in the box for the bats to choose from.
BIJ12 is an organization that assists provincial governments with nature management, agriculture, and legislation on protected animals and plants. They ensure that regulations from the Nature Conservation Act are properly applied. For example, if nests or roosts of birds and bats disappear during construction projects, BIJ12 determines what measures are necessary.
The Common Pipistrelle and Nathusian Pipistrelle bats migrate to their summer roost in mid-April, where they remain until the end of the mating season in September. Because bats need time to discover new boxes, the best time to put one up is mid-March.
Material: The MBH Bat Box double-layered is made of FSC-certified wood from sustainably managed forests.
Lifespan: Approx. 10 years. The lifespan can be extended to 15 years by treating the bat box with an environmentally friendly wood preservative, such as linseed oil or a linseed oil-based stain.
Maintenance: The MBH Bat Box double-layered is unlikely to be used as a winter roost, so you can maintain it from October to January. Remove any cobwebs or droppings with a soft brush, such as a feather duster.
Assembly: The bat boxes are easy to hang with screws.
