The Vleermic 384Khz Ultrasonic Microphone is a very affordable, fast microphone that allows you to discover the ultrasonic world around you. Why an external microphone? This external microphone has its own processor and samples at 384kHz, enabling it to capture ultrasound. This microphone plugs directly into your phone or tablet with a USB-C connection. Depending on the app used, you can visualize, record, or make these sounds audible to the human ear.
The Vleermic 384kHz Ultrasonic Microphone is a simple, high-sample rate USB-C microphone that you can use to observe and record sounds such as bats and grasshoppers. In terms of sound quality, the Vleermic 384kHz Ultrasonic Microphone approaches more expensive professional microphones, yet due to its construction, this microphone is considerably more affordable. This makes the microphone very suitable for hobbyists or volunteers, without having to purchase expensive research equipment. This device can easily receive radio signals from a smartphone. It is therefore recommended to use your smartphone in airplane mode. The device is not designed for use in the rain.
The Vleermic 384kHz Ultrasonic microphone works as a standard UAC-2 (USB Audio2) microphone and does not require special drivers or have its own app. Therefore, this microphone can be used with any app that supports a UAC-2 microphone, such as bat sound apps like BatGizmo (Android Play Store), Bat Detector (iOS App Store), or Audiomoth Live app, or a sound app like Audacity. The well-known bat detector app by Bill Kraus works with Class 1 USB Audio and is not (yet) compatible. Depending on the app used, (bat) sounds can be made audible using functions such as heterodyne or time-expansion. To do this, you must follow the instructions of your chosen app. (Free) apps are available via the App Store and Play Store.
